Turn used equipment into profit (and save time)

Used equipment that’s no longer needed is a headache most government organisations know all too well.

Retired equipment that has been replaced but not yet disposed of. Fleet vehicles no longer needed but still in working order. Usable electronics equipment gathering dust in a storage room. Surplus assets often just get forgotten about and spend their days taking up valuable space.

But for many organisations, asset disposal isn’t just about clearing space. It’s also about promoting reuse, maintaining an auditable process, achieving the best return for sold equipment, and ensuring the entire process holds up to scrutiny.

This usually results in a lot of stress for the individuals that end up having to sort it all out, so many organisations instead look for a trusted asset disposal supplier. At Ramco, we've been fixing that problem for thirty years.

Decades of experience

Ramco has spent the last thirty years working with all corners of the public sector - from the MoD, care and transport to media, local authorities and education. Each has their own set of requirements, but Ramco’s flexible approach ensures their needs are met in a manner that is compliant, hassle-free, and above all, commercially beneficial.

Since 1996, Ramco has also proudly held the commercial assets disposal contract for the Ministry of Defence, overseeing the sale (through our online auctions) and responsible reuse of surplus government-owned assets - reinforcing Ramco’s credibility in delivering a reliable service to help manage surplus assets.

Other public sector clients include National Highways, BBC, Met Office, Anglia Ruskin University, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, and Ofcom.

Compliant asset disposal

When it comes to disposing of surplus assets, it needs to be done in a compliant manner with regular reporting and an auditable paper trail. More so with public sector organisations, who are under scrutiny to ensure that processes are above board and carried out through the correct channels.

Compliance runs deeper than checklists and certifications, and that’s why organisations need to choose a supplier that fully understands the requirements of the public sector. Ramco started in 1996 with a contract to assist the Ministry of Defence with the disposal of Commercial Assets.

Since then, Ramco has not only retained that contract (which now includes military clothing and textiles) but also won two additional MoD contracts in that time: the Scrap and Hazardous Waste contracts.

The Ministry of Defence demands a fully compliant and auditable disposal route, and that’s the standard that Ramco brings to every asset disposal task. When you've held the Ministry of Defence's commercial asset disposal contract since 1996, accountability isn't optional.

A Government Commercial Agency supplier

For many organisations, asset disposal becomes a headache when it is tied to complicated or lengthy procurement routes, taking up much needed time, whilst surplus assets lose value and occupy valuable space. The Government Commercial Agency (GCA) Courier, Distribution, Storage and Specialist Solutions RM6354) framework provides public sector organisations with a credible, reliable and commercially valuable procurement route. The framework runs from 2026 to 2030, with Ramco as a named supplier allowing public sector organisations to engage us directly through GCA.

Ramco is approved on the following three lots:

  • 4a Managed Service for the Transportation and Disposal of Firearms, Weapons and Explosives (Class 1)
  • 4b Managed Service for Recycling and Disposal
  • 4c Managed Service for Asset Recovery

For any public sector organisation looking for a trusted partner to help with their asset disposal requirements, the GCA framework is the simplest route.

A sustainable approach

Sustainability is no longer optional for public sector organisations. Social value requirements, carbon reduction plans, and net zero commitments now mean that how assets are disposed of is just as important as what financial return is generated.

Reuse is at the heart of how Ramco operates. In 2025 alone, we rehomed over 1.1 million items on behalf of our clients, keeping surplus equipment in use and extending the life of assets. And whilst we always aim to keep assets in use where we can, we also have relationships with trusted and compliant recycling partners, who ensure that anything that can’t be reused remains within the circular economy through responsible recycling. This approach eliminates the need for our public sector clients to use multiple suppliers for different requirements.

Disposal (reuse) made easy

Public sector procurement teams are stretched already, and the last thing they need is a disposal supplier that creates more work. That’s why Ramco handles the entire process from start to finish. From removal and collection to storage, marketing and sales - we do all the work, and you get a return. If your organisation has surplus assets to manage, Ramco is available either directly or through the GCA RM6354 framework.
